Alert resident helps solve Cheddar’s robbery

Thursday, July 30, 2015

Police often advise citizens: “If you see something, say something.”

In an armed robbery that occurred at Cheddar’s Casual Cafe in Forsyth around midnight on July 11, the restaurant’s manager was robbed at gunpoint of $1,100 from the business’s safe.

The following day, an alert resident who had seen news reports indeed did see something of importance and said something by contacting law enforcement. The resident, who was out for a walk, found what Lt. Jamie Belcher of the Macon County Sheriff’s Office described as evidence. Local media outlets reported that what the resident found were masks that police believe were used in the robbery.

The evidence was eventually traced to two suspects who are now in jail on multiple felony charges, Belcher told trustees on July 20. Belcher added that one of the suspects is a previous Cheddar’s employee, which he said, has been the case in every previous robbery of the restaurant. 
