Arbor Day celebrated

Friday, April 15, 2011

An Arbor Day celebration has become a Forsyth tradition since the Village was first designated a Tree City USA in 1996.

In observance of the day on April 29, first and second grade students at Maroa-Forsyth Grade School will receive a pine tree sapling during a presentation in the school gymnasium. Public Works Director Larry Coloni is coordinating the event with school officials.

Forsyth’s designation as a Tree City USA means that the Village has met the four standards set by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. These standards include a tree care ordinance and a comprehensive community forestry program.
