Cerro Gordo wins ASA state tourney at Forsyth Park

Thursday, August 11, 2016

The ASA Mens Class C Fastpitch State Tournament was held the weekend of July 29 and 30 at Forsyth Park. Six teams competed, with a local team, the Cerro Gordo Broncos, winning the championship.

Trustee Larry Reed, who spent the weekend watching all the tournament action, said it was “a good tournament, weather was great, and (there were) good crowds.”

Reed had praise for the winning team’s fans, saying that Cerro Gordo “brings good crowds.”

Due to some delays, the championship game didn’t finish until about midnight on Saturday night.

“We apologize to neighbors for running late,” Reed said.

Public Works Director Larry Coloni said the many compliments he heard throughout the weekend about the park’s ball diamonds were a tribute to the hard work of his staff.

“All the diamonds were raved about,” Coloni said. “That’s appreciated; I’ve got a great crew.”

Wooden Bat Tourney Aug. 5-7
The Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau was the host of the tournament and then played host again for a men’s wooden bat tournament that was held this past weekend, also at Forsyth Park.

The Men’s ASA National Invitational Fastpitch Wooden Bat Tournament was played Aug. 5-7, with play beginning Friday night and continuing through Saturday and Sunday.
