Classic golf tourney moving to August

Thursday, November 12, 2015

Cindy Deadrick-Wolfer, tournament director of the Decatur-Forsyth Classic, spoke at the Oct. 19 board meeting. She thanked trustees for the village’s continued sponsorship of what’s now the longest running event on the LPGA Symetra Tour.

Due to the growth of the tour and scheduling conflicts, 2016 will be the first time in 31 years the tournament will not be played in June, she said. New dates are set for Aug. 8-14, with an agreement in place for the next two years, however there’s no guarantee of dates.

With 65 players and 100 caddies and staff staying here she thought the economic impact was great despite major weather issues this year. She presented a photograph from this year’s pro-am and a book commemorating the tournament’s 30 years at Hickory Point Golf Course. 
