Collaboration Brings Business Resource to Community

Thursday, September 15, 2016

Forsyth Public Library, Decatur Public Library and Mount Zion Public Library have joined forces to offer DemographicsNow: Business & People, an online business and residential reference tool that provides detailed demographic data on more than 30 million businesses and 206 million consumers. Designed with an intuitive interface, interactive mapping tools and comprehensive data, this new resource makes it easy for all types of researchers to collect, analyze and act upon information.

DemographicsNow can be used by all types of users – from small business owners, entrepreneurs and sales people, to job seekers, students, community leaders and nonprofit organizations. Marketing and sales people can develop targeted, accurate customer leads and mailing lists for campaigns; students can research companies and regions for assignments; and job seekers can find information on a company before a job interview.

“Libraries are places of learning, enrichment and growth and this database adds an additional tool for growing our communities,” said Rachel Miller, library director at Forsyth Public Library. “Anyone with an idea can access the type of data typically available only to larger corporations or to those able to pay for access. The benefits of this database reach beyond traditional businesses. Churches, nonprofits, and other groups will find value in this resource.”

Residents of Forsyth, Decatur, and Mount Zion may use DemographicsNow: Business & People at all three libraries or from any computer by going to the libraries’ websites and accessing the product using their library card number.

Providing access to this database was truly a collaborative effort. Forsyth Public Library, Decatur Public Library, Mount Zion Public Library, Economic Development Corporation of Decatur and Macon County, City of Decatur, Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce, Millikin University, Richland Community College, Village of Mount Zion, Mount Zion Chamber of Commerce, and Mount Zion Economic Development Corporation all assisted in financial or technical support of this effort. 
