Consignment shop opens on Ruehl Street

Thursday, February 16, 2012

A new plus-size women’s consignment shop has opened on Ruehl Street just east of Forsyth Post Office.

Owner Bunny Crist of Decatur chose the location for her Apples & Pears Boutique after eying the vacant building for the past year.

“She was looking for a place where plus-size women could come and feel comfortable in their own space. She fell in love with the building and the whole atmosphere,” said Sue Lewis, a friend who works in the shop, which is open seven days a week. Hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.

Each Saturday, Crist adds to the shop’s inventory by accepting consigned clothing in sizes 16 and up. Shoppers can browse through racks filled with name brands, including Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug, Coldwater Creek and Alfred Dunner. Dressy to casual apparel for all seasons is available, including dresses, suits, wedding gowns, coats, pants, pant suits, intimate apparel, pajamas and belts.

“Right now we have a gorgeous fur coat that was made in Germany,” Lewis said. Also available are purses, shoes, fashion jewelry and Mary Kay cosmetic products. For more details, phone Apples & Pears Boutique at 791-6737.
