Developer to build two executive-style apartments

Developer Jeff Hoyt plans to build two executive-style apartments on East Weaver Road near Staples following unanimous Board approval March 4 for a zoning map amendment. The amendment changes the property from R-1 single family residence to R-3 multiple family residential. No objections were raised by nearby residents.

Included in Hoyt’s plan is the development of a landscape buffer along the east property line of the east lot. The buffer will provide a visible separation to the adjoining residential property. No timeline has been announced for construction startup.

In his application for the zoning change, Hoyt said his plan provides an opportunity for residential growth and offers a different type of living unit for an underserved market. He noted the properties he plans to develop were unlikely to be developed as single family residential due to their proximity to commercial zoning.

Speaking to trustees at the March 4 meeting, Hoyt said three different realtors sent letters in support of the project. He also noted that major businesses in the Decatur area look for this type of housing when new employees transfer to the area.

Hoyt had previously applied for a minor planned development at the same location, but withdrew his petition as unfeasible.
