Don't be in a hurry to shovel

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Being an early bird doesn't always pay off. Public Works Director Larry Coloni has some advice for residents eager to bring out the shovels and snow- blowers after a heavy snow.

""It's best if residents wait to clean their driveway after all the streets are cleaned,"" he said. The Village operates four plows with crews tackling all the primary streets and main roads before moving into the neighborhoods.

But if you just can't wait, Coloni offers this tip: ""Pile the snow downstream of the plow.""

An added reminder comes as well: ""Don't blow snow in the streets ... it's a safety hazard and a person could be liable.""
