Drainage issue at Ruehl/Elwood intersection to be corrected

Thursday, June 30, 2011

Drainage problems at the intersection of Ruehl and Elwood streets will be resolved once a storm sewer system is constructed later this season.

“It’s been an ongoing problem … we get a small rain, and it backs up,” Public Works Director Larry Coloni told trustees. The Board has authorized Village Engineer Chuck Hunsinger to proceed with the preliminary plans for the $50,000 budgeted project. Coloni said the southeast corner of Elwood has become a safety issue in winter due to icing.

Hunsinger said it is not possible to give a definitive timeline for construction startup or completion. His best guesstimate was that bidding on the project could come as early as August. Once begun and depending on the weather, the entire project will take about a month to complete. The size of the storm sewer is yet to be determined, Hunsinger said.
