Family Fest ‘Better Than Ever’

Thursday, June 30, 2016

With a noble theme of honoring Hometown Heroes, along with some warm but cooperative weather and a lot of happy and familiar faces, another successful Family Fest is in the books.

With that theme in mind, Saturday morning’s parade had a special place for first responders so they could be honored, as well as veterans. And, of course, it was a time for kids to have fun grabbing candy tossed from the passing parade.

There was plenty of other fun to be had riding carnival rides, eating good food and dancing to rock and roll music. And, as is our custom, the capper to the festivities was a terrific fireworks show on Saturday night.

Mayor Marilyn Johnson happily declared that this year’s Family Fest was quite a success. In particular, she had praise for how the planning was a team effort among trustees. She appreciated all their hard work and all the hard work of volunteers.

“We had all the trustees involved this year,” Johnson said. “They formed their own committees, and it brought a lot of new ideas.

“It was better than ever.”
