Five-year strategic plan approved

Thursday, December 31, 2015

At the Dec. 21 board meeting, trustees finished up discussions regarding the village’s five-year strategic plan and then voted to approve it. Most of the talk by trustees centered around the idea that for the plan to be most effective it needs to be reviewed on a regular basis.

“I want to emphasize what an important document this is,” Trustee Steve Hubbard said of the plan. “And, we need to not let it gather dust.”

Trustee Jim Peck commended Village Administrator David Strohl and Village Hall staff for all the time and effort that went into preparing the document.

Strohl had revised the document based on a previous discussion at the Dec. 7 board meeting.

Strohl’s memo to trustees recommended adoption of the strategic plan, noting that the document “provides staff with action steps to work on, many with multiple, sequential components.” Further, his memo went on say that the document “sets forth the strategic vision for the community.” Strohl wrote that adopting the document in its entirety as a board was essential.

“I like the timelines, the benchmarks … it has a lot of good ideas,” Peck said. “It’s a great start. As Steve (Hubbard) said, we can’t leave it on the shelf.”

Trustee David Wendt said it was important to keep track of progress on goals that are part of the strategic plan.

“I agree we need to get this (strategic plan) out and see how we’re doing every six months or so,” Wendt said.

Wendt made the motion to approve, and Peck seconded it.

All votes were in favor, and the strategic plan was passed.
