Items of interest from Village staff and the Aug. 5 Board meeting

  • The Library Foundation Board and the Park Foundation Board are asking for volunteers interested in serving and helping to maintain them. Anyone interested should call Village Hall at (217) 877-9445.
  • Public Works Director Larry Coloni got a bit of surprise at around 8 p.m. Sunday, July 28. As he made his usual rounds, Coloni found the Water Treatment Plant had shut down, and the floor was covered with water. After some investigating, he discovered the electronic controller was not working so the plant could not automatically communicate there was a problem via an alarm callout to Coloni. Coloni called in an electrician to make the repair, but problems persisted until Aug. 1. Coloni, in his regular report to the board, said that had he not discovered the problem until that following Monday morning, the Village would have been without water and put on a boil order. “We were almost without water in the Village,” he said, prompting comments from Trustees Bob Gruenewald and Bob Rasho about the system and its backup capabilities. Coloni reassured the board that the event was unique, calling it a “very weird situation ... you’ll not see this scenario again.”
  • The new chairperson for the 2014 Forsyth Family Fest Committee is Trustee Kerstin Trachtenberg. Mayor Marilyn Johnson put the item on the agenda; Trustee Rasho made the motion to approve the appointment, which was seconded by Trustee Gruenewald and approved unanimously.
