Items of interest from Village staff and the Sept. 16 Board meeting

  • Leaf pickup will begin Oct. 14 and run until Dec. 6. Leaf piles should be placed in the village-owned right-of-way by 8 a.m. on weekdays. There will be no pickup on holidays or weekends. Pickup is for leaves only; no tree limbs or other landscape will be collected. See the front-page story in this issue of Village Vision for greater detail.
  • There will be a program to honor veterans at Forsyth Veterans Park on Nov. 11, beginning at 11 a.m. Veteran and Forsyth American Legion Post 2008 member Terry L. Parrish will make opening remarks. The post’s chaplain, pastor Gilbert T. Fletcher, will offer the opening prayer. Phyllis Jackson will sing “The Star Spangled Banner.” The guest speaker will be Thomas Steinhart, adjutant for Post 2008. “God Bless America” will be sung by all in attendance, followed by closing remarks from Parrish and a final benediction by Fletcher.
  • In case you missed it, Mayor Marilyn Johnson declared Sept. 19, 2013, as Drive 4 Pledges Day in the Village of Forsyth. It was a day to join the more than 1.8 million people who have pledged never to text and drive. As the proclamation reads: “A driver who sends a text message while driving not only jeopardizes his or her safety, but also the safety of passengers, pedestrians and other drivers.” And, though Sept. 19 is past us on the calendar, this is a worthy pledge for every day of the year.
