Items of interest from Village staff and the October 7 Board meeting

  • Leaf pickup reminder: The annual free leaf pickup program will continue until Dec. 6. Leaf piles should be placed in the village-owned right-of-way by 8 a.m. on weekdays. There is no pickup on holidays or weekends. Leaf pickup, as the name implies, is for leaves only; no tree limbs or other landscape will be collected.
  • A deputy for the Macon County Sheriff’s Department reported at the Oct. 7 board meeting that there were two recent burglaries at local businesses, the Forsyth Car Wash and Speed Lube. The officer reported that two individuals possibly responsible for the crimes were arrested in Decatur, but no charges have been filed related to the burglaries in the village because of lack of evidence. The investigation, according to the deputy, is ongoing.
  • Tennis, anyone? A tennis meeting is scheduled 5-5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 in the large pavilion near the tennis courts in Forsyth Park. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the future of tennis in Forsyth, including kids programs, adult programs, high school tennis teams and any other tennis-related items. Cory Sandgren, a USPTA and Decatur Athletic Club tennis professional, will lead the meeting with the idea of building tennis participation in the Forsyth area. All ideas are welcome. If you have an interest but can’t make the meeting, please contact Cory at, or call the Decatur Athletic Club at (217) 423-7020 to express your level of interest or any ideas you may have.
