Items of interest from Village staff and the January 20 Board meeting

  • Public Works Director Larry Coloni hosted the Illinois Chapter of the American Public Works Association Executive Board Meeting in the community room on Jan. 10.
  • Coloni reported to the board that recent severe weather resulted in frozen water lines at Village Hall and at the Forsyth Public Library. The lines burst upon thawing and had to be repaired by Public Works staff, according to Coloni. The problem at the library was due to the furnace shutting down, Coloni said, but he was not sure what the cause was at Village Hall. Since there was no water available while the repair work was being done, both buildings were temporarily closed.
  • Public Works crews have been busy clearing snow from roads and walking trails, removing dead trees from the park and filling potholes.
  • According to Village Attorney Jeff Jurgens’ recent report to the board, one item village staff continues to work on is creating standardized rules and procedures for enforcing violations of the Village Code and Development Ordinance.
  • Mark your calendars for kindergarten screenings coming in the month of February. Screenings are scheduled Feb. 4 and 5. Please call Maroa-Forsyth Grade School at (217) 877-2023 to arrange an appointment. Screenings are for children who will be 5 by Sept. 1, 2014.
  • The next regular meeting of the Forsyth Board of Trustees is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 in Village Hall at 301 S. Route 51. Board meetings are open to the public.
