Items of interest from village staff and recent board meetings

  • Village Administrator David Strohl told trustees in December that he plans to meet with Ryan McCrady, the new president of the Economic Development Corporation of Decatur/Macon County, some time this month. Strohl said he will discuss with McCrady potential communication strategies for keeping board members and Mayor Marilyn Johnson informed of any news related to the new enterprise zone, which trustees voted to join on Dec. 1. McCrady, former Decatur City Manager, replaced interim EDC president Larry Altenbaumer on Jan. 5. Strohl serves on the EDC board, which should help with communication, Trustee Bob Rasho pointed out to colleagues during the Dec. 15 board meeting.
  • At the Dec. 1 board meeting, Strohl recommended approval of Ordinance No. 935, which enacts and adopts a supplement to the village’s code of ordinances. Strohl said American Legal Publishing Corporation recently completed the supplement to the village’s code of ordinances. Village Attorney Jeff Jurgens said that while there is an expense, there is a lot of value in what the company provides. Trustee Larry Reed made the motion, which was seconded by Trustee Dave Wendt. All votes were Yea.
  • Public Works crews recently filled all of the village’s potholes using about two tons of cold patch material, according to Public Works Director Larry Coloni’s report to the board submitted for the Jan. 5 meeting. Crews have been busy trimming trees and clearing brush, as weather allows. In addition, Coloni noted that all the fall leaves collected earlier this season have now been spread on village properties. 
