Items of interest from village staff and recent board meetings

  • Public Works Director Larry Coloni reported to trustees at the July 20 meeting that his department has been hard at work preparing ball diamonds for two consecutive weekends of American Softball Association tournaments. The first event, the ASA Men’s Over 50 Fast Pitch National Tournament, was last weekend. The ASA Men’s Fast Pitch State Tournament is this weekend, July 31-Aug. 2, at Forsyth Park.
  • Also at the July 20 meeting, Village Engineer David Harp’s report noted that the Macon County Highway Department will undertake some upcoming drainage work on County Highway 20 near Jack Lane. The work should “alleviate frequent flooding of the highway in that area.” The plan also includes relocation of a field entrance and ditch regrading, according to the report.
  • A message often repeated during law enforcement reports to trustees is the fact that the intersection of Route 51 and Barnett Avenue near the mall is the site of numerous vehicle accidents. Drivers turning south from Barnett onto Route 51 are often distracted by oncoming traffic approaching from the north when their vehicle strikes the vehicle just ahead of them. Please take a few extra seconds of caution, especially at that intersection, to be aware of what is happening directly in front of you.
  • The next regular meeting of the Forsyth Board of Trustees is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 3, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in Village Hall at 301 S. Route 51 in Forsyth. Board meetings are held the first and third Mondays of the month and are open to the public.
