Items of interest from village staff and recent board meetings

  • At the Aug. 17 board meeting, Sgt. Michael Hawkins of the Macon County Sheriff’s Office reported eight recent vehicle burglaries in the village between Aug. 3 and Aug. 16. Hawkins said the vehicles were all unlocked and that other nearby communities reported similar crimes recently. Hawkins advised residents to lock their vehicles.
  • At the Aug. 17 board meeting, Trustee Steve Hubbard congratulated Forsyth residents Jim Ashby and Melanie Schelling for being named 2015 Decatur Celebration King and Queen. Ashby and Schelling raised the most money in a fund-raising effort that helped support Decatur Celebration.
  • Also at the Aug. 17 board meeting: In response to a question from Trustee Jim Peck, Public Works Director Larry Coloni told trustees that the village’s water tower will get a much-needed scrubbing by the end of September, which should take care of its moldy appearance.
  • Coloni reported to trustees that he has met with a concrete contractor about tee box construction for the Disc Golf course, and concrete should get poured any day. Trustees approved signage for the course after seeing samples from two different companies at the Aug. 3 meeting. They chose the sign from Decatur Blue. Coloni said a proof copy will be provided before any signs are produced.
  • Due to the Labor Day holiday the next regular meeting of the Forsyth Board of Trustees is Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in Village Hall at 301 S. Route 51 in Forsyth. Board meetings are held the first and third Mondays of the month and are open to the public.
