Items of interest from village staff and recent board meetings

  • Bring your trick-or-treaters to Hickory Point Mall on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 5-6 p.m. for a mall-wide trick-or-treat event. It’s a great way to enjoy a safe and friendly environment for trick-or-treaters with participating retailers but only while supplies last. The event is for children 12 and under, who must be accompanied by an adult. Please no masks for adults.
  • Help save a life when the American Red Cross holds a blood drive at Decatur Christian School, 137 S. Grant in Forsyth, from 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Nov. 10. For more info or to schedule an appointment, call (217) 877-5636 or simply walk in.
  • The makeover work to Forsyth Park’s tennis courts, which was approved back in September, is now complete. The cracks in the courts were filled, and the courts were power-washed. They also got a new surface from the contractor All Weather Courts. Public Works Director Larry Coloni was the village’s point person on the project, which cost $31,490. Trustee Dave Wendt, speaking at the Oct. 19 board meeting, said the courts “look awesome,” a sentiment echoed by Mayor Marilyn Johnson.
  • The Forsyth Sunrise Rotary Club has disbanded, but the group made a $200 donation to Forsyth Public Library with some of its remaining funds.
  • The next regular meeting of the Forsyth Board of Trustees is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 2, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in Village Hall at 301 S. Route 51 in Forsyth. Board meetings are held the first and third Mondays of the month and are open to the public.
