Items of interest from village staff and recent board meetings

  • Penn Station East Coast Subs and SportClips Haircuts will soon be joined by a third tenant when Red Wing Shoes moves into the new development along the Route 51 corridor. The location, at 107 Highland Drive, is owned by Steve Zhao, president of the development business, Neil Plaza, based in Champaign. The retail space, which opened in the spring, has room for four businesses in all.
  • In an effort to relieve a local family of having disc golfers playing through their backyard, Public Works crews have relocated two trees from the 13th fairway of the disc golf course in Forsyth Park. There’s also new signage in place showing out of bounds that should encourage players to play the hole more toward the south.
  • In two recent law enforcement reports to the board, deputies reported about two separate incidents at Hickory Point Mall. One was described as a high-volume theft at Von Maur of about $7,000 in merchandise; no one is in custody yet in that case. The other was a robbery at Ulta, which involved three suspects, two of whom have been arrested. All three suspects have been identified by law enforcement, and the U.S. Marshals Service has joined local authorities in what is an ongoing investigation.
  • The next regular meeting of the Forsyth Board of Trustees is scheduled for Monday, July 18, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. in Village Hall at 301 S. Route 51 in Forsyth. Board meetings are held the first and third Mondays of the month and are open to the public.
