Items of interest from village staff and recent board meetings

  • In the law enforcement report on January 16, Macon County Sheriff’s Deputy Shane Wendell reported to trustees that there have been increased patrols at Hickory Point Mall in an effort to curtail incidents like the recent smash and grab crimes that have occurred. Wendell also reported that as part of the department’s regular rotation of personnel, four new deputies will be assigned to serve and protect the community starting next month. The current group of officers working in the Village will move on to new assignments within the department. Look for a listing of the newly assigned deputies in the next Village Vision.
  • The Community Foundation of Macon County’s online scholarship application for the 2017-2018 academic year opened on January 1, 2017, at High school seniors who reside in the county and have been accepted at an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply. Current college students also should apply for the scholarships. Electronic applications only, and deadlines are March 1 or March 31, depending on the scholarship. Foundation scholarship funds will provide over $70,000 for academic year 2017- 2018, with awards varying from $250 to $6,000.   • The next regular meeting of the Forsyth Board of Trustees is scheduled for Monday, February 6, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in Village Hall at 301 S. Route 51 in Forsyth. Board meetings are held the first and third Mondays of the month and are open to the public.
