Items of interest from village staff and recent board meetings

  • In the November 6 law enforcement report, Macon County Sheriff’s Deputy Shane Beck reported that a pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck November 2 in Forsyth near U.S. 51 and Barnett Avenue. The accident occurred as the pedestrian was running across the street; Beck said witnesses had seen him dodging traffic. The man, who was found in a nearby ditch, had argued with his girlfriend at the theater, and she took his wallet and keys prior to the accident so he was not identified until the following morning. The investigation continues, and the man remains in critical condition at Decatur Memorial Hospital, according to Beck.
  • Community and Economic Development Coordinator Andrew Zupkoff’s report to trustees for the November 6 Board meeting noted that he recently worked with the Economic Development Corporation of Decatur and Macon County to put together a comprehensive listing of apartment rentals in the Village of Forsyth. The listing will be given to new area residents who may want to rent an apartment.
  • As the holiday shopping season gets underway, shoppers at Hickory Point Mall will notice that Petals Gift Shop has opened a second location, and a pop-up Hickory Farms location opens November 18 to sell sausage, cheese and other specialty foods.
  • The next regular meeting of the Forsyth Board of Trustees is scheduled for Monday, November 20, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in Village Hall at 301 S. Route 51 in Forsyth. Board meetings are held the first and third Mondays of the month and are open to the public.
