Items of interest from Village staff and the May 6 Board meeting

Dave Floodman, Regional Project Manager for Tharaldson Hospitality Development, presented a proposed hotel development, The Residence Inn by Marriott, at 230 Lucile Ave. Two ordinances were approved by the Board to allow relief sought by Tharaldson (1) for re-zoning of the property and (2) to accommodate an increase in building height restriction from 35 feet to a mean height of 48 feet and a maximum height of nearly 53 feet. The plan calls for a four-story, 96-room hotel that should employ about 20 people. Currently, the property generates $3,800 in property taxes. Estimates by Village staff put the projected revenue generated by the proposed development above $100,000, money that would be divided among the 10 taxing districts that rely on property tax revenue.

  • The Board approved early payoff of three loans from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency that were used for sewer-related projects in three subdivisions: Hickory Point Estates, Montezuma Hills and Woodland Hills. The payoff total for all three loans was $1,448,649.99, for a savings in interest of $199,756.77. The loans were part of an agreement between the Village and the Sanitary District of Decatur as both were undertaking similar projects.
  • Mayor Marilyn Johnson was sworn in as were new Trustees Bob Gruenwald and Dave Wendt and re-elected Trustee Steve Hubbard. Mayor Johnson reappointed the Administrator, Treasurer, Clerk, Attorney and Engineer and named Trustee Larry Reed as Mayor Pro-Tem.
