Forsyth Park site for IHSA post-season softball, baseball

Thursday, March 02, 2017

The Illinois High School Association has announced that Forsyth Park will be the site for two post-season tournaments this spring.

The IHSA will bring the 2A boys high school baseball regional to town with quarterfinal games played May 15–16, semifinals on May 17–18 and the regional final played on May 20.

The IHSA will also bring the 2A girls high school softball sectional to town with semifinals slated for May 23–24, and the final on May 27.

All dates are subject to change by the IHSA, depending on possible conflicts during graduation season.

This will be an opportunity for the Village to showcase the park’s two new press boxes recently built at Diamond Nos. 4 and 5. The diamonds are home to the softball and baseball teams at Maroa-Forsyth High School.

Developer Jeff Horve was instrumental in making the construction project happen. The press boxes were designed and built to accommodate score keepers and storage of equipment; each building also has a sound machine.

For some trustees the idea of building press boxes, which surfaced back in the fall, was to try to help attract additional games and tournaments to the Village.

Whether the IHSA considered the press boxes in its decision is unclear, but what’s not unclear is that the Village stands to benefit economically with baseball and softball teams and their fans coming to town to eat, shop and possibly stay in hotels.
