Forsyth to be epicenter of fast pitch softball

Thursday, July 16, 2015

In July, Forsyth will rule the world of fast pitch softball as the village hosts two tournaments back to back on the last two weekends of the month. At the July 6 board meeting, trustees approved holding special events on park property that involve alcoholic beverages.

The village first approved a special event license back in 2013 in an attempt to land a tournament here, which did occur last summer. Teams from the American Softball Association, and the league itself, were happy enough with the way things went in 2014 that they are back this year with not one but two tournaments.

The Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau was instrumental in landing these tournaments for Forsyth. The tournaments will bring players, coaches, umpires, families and fans to town to stay in hotels, eat in restaurants and shop at the mall. Last year, with just the one tournament, the DACVB reported 28 room nights associated with the tournament for hotels located in the village.
