Friar Tuck seeks earlier Sunday hours; measure passes

Thursday, March 02, 2017

A local business asked that the Village’s liquor code be modified, specifically regarding Sunday hours of operation for businesses holding a package liquor license.

According to Mark Maskey, Friar Tuck’s president and general manager, the company wanted to change its hours on Sundays to open at 9 a.m. rather than noon.

“I think we want to do what we can to be business-friendly,” Trustee Jim Peck said.

Village Attorney Jeff Jurgens assured trustees that there would not be a proliferation of new package liquor stores if the change was approved.

“New liquor stores will not be popping up all over,” Jurgens said.

Jurgens wrote an amended version of the ordinance so that both Class C and Class D liquor license holders now have the option to open on Sundays from 9 a.m.–10 p.m. All votes were Yea at the February 6 meeting.
