Friar Tuck to open in former auto parts building

Thursday, March 28, 2013

A vacant building on Hickory Point Mall property at 1085 S. Rt. 51 will be the new home of Friar Tuck Beverages following unanimous Board approval for sign variances and remodel plans on March 4. The site was formerly occupied by an auto parts business. Village Administrator Mike Miller said the store opening would be in mid-summer.

Miller described economic development as the key to Forsyth’s growth and further described his role as one of providing the strategy for Village trustees. “My bible is the [Village’s] comprehensive plan,” he said. Nine months into his job, Miller said his overall goal is to retain the businesses the Village already has, attract others and develop residential property.

Last August, trustees updated the Village’s liquor code to add an additional class license that allows the sale of packaged liquor. Previously, the liquor code had been restricted to the sale of only packaged beer and wine. The addition of a Class D license allowed a business such as Friar Tuck to take a closer look at becoming part of Forsyth’s retail assortment once it projected its business model to be a successful fit for the Village, according to Miller.
