Got leaves? Let the Village take them!

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Free daily leaf pickups begin Oct. 18 and continue through Dec. 10. This season marks the 14th year since Forsyth's voluntary leaf collection began as a pilot program.

Public Works Director Larry Coloni said the same rules apply:

  • No brush, sticks or grass clippings should be mixed with the leaves.
  • Leaves should be piled on curbs or near the street's edge since the vacuum equipment reaches just three feet from the road's edge.
  • Sprinkle piles of dry and dusty leaves prior to collection times to avoid dust in neighborhoods.

Crews will pick up the leaves throughout the Village on a daily basis, Coloni said, noting that residents should call Village Hall at 877-9445 if more than two consecutive days of the service are missed.

Forsyth does not have a burn ban, but does have a burn ordinance with a minimum $25 fine. The ordinance is enforced either by the Macon County Sheriff's Office or the Hickory Point Township Fire Department. Only yard waste is to be burned.

Coloni said the Village's weekly tree limb collection program will also end Dec. 10. Light branches no longer than eight feet should be left on the curbside by 8 a.m. each Monday.
