Help honor Forsyth’s finest

Thursday, November 17, 2011

Help Mayor Hap Gilbert in his selection of this year’s recipient(s) of the Pride & Progress Award. Send your suggestion to him in an email by Dec. 5 or phone Village Hall at 877-994 and leave a message with Administrative Secretary Kim Taylor.

The Pride & Progress Award originated in 2004 with one committee’s decision to recognize businesses or individuals who enhance Forsyth’s image. During the intervening years, a total of 19 recipients in the categories of economic development and humanitarianism have been honored. In the past, an ad hoc committee made the selections after reviewing submitted nomination forms. This year trustees decided to abandon this method in favor of having the mayor alone decide on the honorees.

Mayor Gilbert said he will use much of the same criteria that has been used previously, including service to others and good citizenship. He said he will be looking for individuals and businesses that “…make a difference in our community.” He said Forsyth is a very giving community and his intent is “…to recognize those people who go above and beyond of what’s normally expected in our community.”

The awards will be presented sometime in late December or by the early part of January on a date to be announced.
