Homewood Suites seeks to add 21 rooms

Thursday, October 11, 2012

A 21-room expansion is planned for Homewood Suites on Marion Avenue pending a review by the Planning & Zoning Commission and approval from Board trustees.

Developer Steve Horve said the proposed expansion is needed due to growing business at the hotel, which opened in 2008.

Additional public improvements are not necessary for the project, because streets, water main and sanitary sewers are in place to adequately serve the proposed development.

Horve is requesting a variance from the standard zoning requirements to allow the building height at 46 feet, the same height as the present three-story building – 11 feet higher than the current Village restriction.

Construction could begin as early as November and be completed by February 2013, dependent upon Board approval. A March/April 2013 opening is anticipated.

Homewood Suites is an extended stay hotel currently with 82 units. It serves as a temporary residence to executives, consultants or families seeking a place to stay while in the area for business purposes or waiting to move into a new home. The average stay at a Homewood Suites is 18 days, Horve said.
