Leaf pick up begins Oct. 17

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Again this year, the Village is offering free daily leaf pickups for Forsyth residents. Pick up officially begins Oct. 17 and concludes Dec. 6. Rules include:

  • No brush, sticks or grass clippings mixed with the leaves
  • Pile leaves on curbs or near the street’s edge since the vacuum equipment reaches just three feet from the road’s edge
  • Avoid dust in the neighborhoods by sprinkling piles of dry and dusty leaves with water prior to collection times.

Public Works Director Larry Coloni said the Village’s free tree limb collection program runs concurrently with the leaf collection and also will end Dec. 6. Light branches no longer than eight feet should be left on curbsides by 8 a.m. each Monday.

If more than two consecutive days of the service are missed, residents should call Village Hall at 877-9445. Since Forsyth does not have a burn ban but does have a burn ordinance with a minimum $25 for each violation, residents should be advised that only yard waste is to be burned, and burning should take place on dry days and before dusk. The ordinance is enforced by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office or the Hickory Point Township Fire Department.
