Library furnishings project approved

Thursday, July 28, 2016

Since much of Forsyth Public Library’s furniture is as old as the library itself, dating to 1983, Library Director Rachel Miller submitted a proposal to the board for design services that would replace furnishings in the most effective way.

With $30,000 budgeted this fiscal year, Miller estimated the project will require another $30,000 to complete. She said she believes the money will be spent wisely and serve the community for years to come.

A design firm would provide a master plan that will “streamline the process and help us avoid costly mistakes,” per Miller’s report to trustees.

Trustees had requested that Miller get a range of bids. At the July 18 meeting, she presented bids from three different firms that ranged from $4,000 to $8,000 in design fees.

With “excellent, rave reviews” from communities in Brown County (near Green Bay, Wisconsin) and LaGrange Public Library in northern Illinois, Miller recommended Embury Ltd., whose $4,000 design fee includes minor revisions at no charge through 2018.

Trustee Kerstin Trachtenberg made the motion to approve the project, which was seconded by Trustee Bob Gruenewald. All votes were in favor; the motion carried.
