Story time!
Preschool storytime will be offered every Thursday in September and October at 10 a.m. Children ages 3-5 are invited to enjoy stories, rhymes and a craft. Each week features a new type of house, including Grandma’s house, animal houses, campers and more. No registration is required.

Summer reading wrap
Summer reading program activities have wrapped up, and the totals show 608 people registered for the reading club, with just more than 40 percent finishing all levels. The number of participants has risen each of the last two years. In 2012, there were 513 people registered for the program, up from 434 participants in 2011.

Repair and maintain
Several building and equipment maintenance projects were completed in July. Gutters near the east entrance were repaired. HVAC technicians tuned and repaired air conditioner issues. Illini Supply repaired a computer carrel (for just the cost of parts). The alarm panel was checked for possible lightning damage, and our computer technician fixed what we hope was the end of lightning damage to computer equipment.

Window update
An inspection of the work area by Peerless Cleaning and Restoration Services gave the project the thumbs up, which allowed B&B Glass to install the new window glass on Aug. 1. The window was to be leak-tested on Aug. 5, and if no problems were found, Quality Concrete and More was to be on hand to finish up the drywall and paint portions of the job. Following that, Peerless was slated to clean surfaces and remove the containment area. The goal is to have the project completed by Aug. 15.

New staffer
Taking over the Library Assistant II position is John Schirle. He will begin his duties the week of Aug. 26.
