Pumpkin-Decorating Contest
Show your fall spirit with Forsyth Public Library’s pumpkin-decorating contest! Decorate a pumpkin at home to resemble a favorite book character, and bring it to the library the week of Oct. 19-24. All entries must be received by 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. Pumpkins can be painted, colored, hot-glued, and crafted in a multitude of creative ways, but no carving. Full details and rules are available at the library. Adults, kids, families, even a team can enter! The public is invited to the library during the week of Oct. 26-29 to vote for their favorite pumpkin. Votes will be tallied, and winners’ ribbons will be awarded at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29.

Windows 10
Windows 10 has arrived. If you are thinking of upgrading but want to know more about it first, join us on Tuesday, Nov. 3 from 6-7 p.m. as Blake Rowland and Matthew Cummings, from Staples Tech Center in Forsyth, discuss this new operating system. Topics will include the new features of Windows 10, how to navigate and use the new system and how to upgrade.

Story Time
Fall Story Time sessions are held from 10-10:45 a.m. every Thursday morning. Children ages 3-5 and their caregivers are invited for stories, crafts and other activities based on the theme of the day. No registration is necessary.

  • Oct. 22 – Pumpkins plus preschoolers equals fun for all! Come wearing orange today, and be ready to get messy with paint!
  • Oct. 29 – It’s time for a spooky Story Time! Come wearing your Halloween costume and settle in for stories featuring tricks and treats!

Baby TALK
Forsyth Public Library is the place to be on Wednesday mornings for families with children from birth to age 3. Drop in for Baby TALK sessions from 9:30-10:15 a.m. each Wednesday. No registration is necessary.

Tech Club
Need some help using your iPad or iPhone or just want to connect with others to share ideas and information? Come join us at Tech Club on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 10-11:30 a.m. The group will continue reviewing iPad basics, including tips for using the camera, calendar, notes and more. No registration required. 

You’re Somebody’s Type
The Bloodmobile will visit library on Monday, Nov. 2 from 1-3:30 p.m. Donating blood costs you nothing and gives other people another chance at life. For your convenience, please call the blood center toll free to sign up at 1-866-GIVE-BLD or schedule an appointment online at www.bloodcenterimpact.org. Walk-ins are also welcome and appreciated. We know you’ve got it in you! Central Illinois Community Blood Center, a not-for-profit organization, is the provider of life-saving blood for 14 hospitals throughout central Illinois, including St. Mary’s Hospital, Memorial Medical Center and St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. A division of Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center (MVRBC), Central Illinois Community Blood Center and MVRBC collect more than 180,000 units of blood annually and serve a total of 87 hospitals in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin.

Zinio
Your Forsyth library card provides access to Zinio for Libraries. Access to 90 digital magazines begins at forsythlibrary.com, under the “Materials Search” section. Users can read complete digital editions of popular magazines and keep the magazines on their computer or mobile device as long as they want. Eleven new titles were recently added to the available magazines, including Bon Appetit, Highlights for Children, Teen Vogue, and Car Craft. Contact the library for more information about how to get started reading magazines with Zinio.
