Reading Takes You Everywhere!

Take a trip to the Forsyth Public Library this summer! Registration for our summer reading program begins Tuesday, May 29 at 9 a.m. All ages can sign up and start reading in order to win prizes! Plus, our itinerary is full of fun and fantastic programs for kids and adults that start the week of June 4! Can’t make it on May 29? Registration week continues through Saturday, June 2 when the Forsyth Park Program will also be here so that you can register for all of your summer programs in one place! Also on June 2, we’ll have our Storywalk™ Adventure and sticker mosaic! Follow the Storywalk™ path and complete the quest to win a prize. Then stick around to help create our mystery picture mosaic.

Youth Garden

Help beautify the library all summer long by planting flower beds on Tuesday, June 5 from 10-11 a.m. Plants will be provided by Larry Reed, Village trustee. Members of the Garden Club of Decatur will provide the expertise. In addition, Master Gardeners from the University of Illinois Extension Program will help you create a seed bomb to take home for an easy and fun way to garden. Simply toss the gumball-sized ball in a bare spot in your garden or lawn, let the rain fall and watch it grow! All ages are welcome and no registration is required! In case of rain, activities will be postponed until Friday, June 8.

Duct Tape Boats

How well will your boat float? Can it win a race? Join us on Saturday, June 9 at 10 a.m. to make, decorate, and race your very own duct tape boat. Adults and kids will work together and can make one boat per child, or one per family, as preferred. This program is for ages 6 and up with an adult. Advance registration is required.

Terrific Tuesdays

Our first Tuesday of the summer is June 5, featuring Jonathan May who will amaze and amuse with magic and comedy at 2 p.m. Get ready for an engaging and entertaining experience filled with laughter, surprises and interactive fun for all ages. On Tuesday, June 12 at 2 p.m., get an up-close look at exotic animal ambassadors! Exotic Wildlife will perform live and provide an opportunity to meet and personally interact with all different animals who truly bring joy to their audience. No registration is required for Terrific Tuesday programs.

Teen and Tween Programs

Are you 10 or older? Sign up for our teen and tween programs starting with Cell Phone Speakers on Wednesday, June 6 from 1-2 p.m. Bring your cell phone or iPod and create your very own speakers using just a cardboard tube and two paper cups!

On Wednesday, June 13 from 1-2 p.m. see how kids just like you use technology to create awesome LEGO-bots! Representatives of the 4-H STEAM Robotics team will be here to demonstrate some of their famous LEGO-bots, including their First Lego League Competition robot and brand new LEGO Sumo robots. They will share some of their design secrets and facilitate a robotics workshop to show you what goes on behind the scenes with their team.

Story Time & Vehicle Showcase

Preschoolers! Come join our fun transportation-themed Story Time Sessions designed specifically for ages 2-6. On Thursday, June 7 we will feature all kinds of cool cars! On Thursday, June 14, come to our marvelous motorcycle story time! Each session features a fun craft to make and take home. In June, we will end story times with a trip outside to the vehicle showcase to see some terrific modes of transportation. You won’t want to miss it! All ages are welcome to stop by and see the vehicles from 10:30-11:30 a.m. No registration is required for either event. In the case of inclement weather, the vehicle showcase will be canceled.

Create & Discover Thursdays

If you are 6 or older, you’ll want to create and discover with us on Thursdays. Be the life of the party with balloon animal creations on Thursday, June 7! Join magician Rick Eugene as he teaches kids to use specialized balloon pumps to inflate, twist and shape spectacular balloon animals. On Thursday, June 14, create a fun hot air balloon scene using tempura paint. Instructor Jami Fawley will teach you to explore patterns and texture while creating a bright, colorful landscape and 2-D hot air balloon. We offer two sessions for our Thursday programs at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Registration is required.

Zumba Party

The world’s most popular group exercise class is coming to the library! Join us for Zumba every Wednesday in June from 1-2 p.m. with instructor Jenny Ahlswede. From beginners to advanced, all adults are welcome. Please wear tennis shoes and clothes suitable for workout.

Book Discussion Groups

The library's two book discussion groups are open to adult readers each month. Food for Thought Book Group will meet Thursday, June 14 at 6 p.m. to discuss Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly. The Bookkeepers Book Group will meet Friday, June 15 at 10 a.m. to discuss The Giver by Lois Lowry.

Forsyth Family Fest

Watch for the library in the Forsyth Family Fest Parade! We’ll be floating by in a boat generously lent to us by Frank and Shelly Smith. Our float will feature the VolunTeens, our teenage helpers who donate their time to the library all summer.


Families with children ages birth to 3 are invited to our Baby TALK sessions on Wednesdays throughout the year from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Sessions are informal and provide opportunities to share parenting concerns and achievements while enjoying books, songs and finger-plays. Baby TALK is free with no registration required.
