Campbell retiring as head librarian
Head librarian Jean Campbell has announced her retirement after 12 years at the Forsyth Public Library where her focus has been on collection development and community involvement. Her last day will be Oct. 28. Campbell attended her last Village Board meeting Oct. 17 and was honored with a round of applause from trustees after Village Administrator Heather Kimmons announced her retirement. Campbell is leaving the Village “in good shape” with its library system and staff, according to Kimmons. Mayor Hap Gilbert offered his appreciation for her service to the Village.

Family Reading Week begins Nov. 14
“Bee a Reader” is the theme of a weeklong celebration of family reading at Forsyth Public Library beginning Nov. 14.

“Our traditional Family Reading Night has been extended to a full week of opportunities for families to discover the enjoyment of reading together,” said Children’s Librarian Rachel Miller. “Things will be buzzing all week long!”

Beekeeper Lori Riggen begins the activities on Monday, Nov. 14, at 6:30 p.m. with an entertaining “up close” look at bees, beekeeping and honey. Children and adults alike will enjoy seeing the beekeeping equipment and learning how honey is harvested. The program also includes a visit from Winnie the Pooh, everyone’s favorite “honey-loving” book bear. Bring your camera! There will be goodie bags for each family, and children will receive a free book.

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, Family Reading Week continues with “Bee Creative” crafts at the library. Stop by to make a craft and receive a hand painted bookmark, donated to the library by a local artist.

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, the library invites readers of all ages to sample desserts made with honey.

“Bring Your Honey to the Library” day will be held Thursday, Nov. 17, with activities for preschoolers and their families. A special Story Quilt story time starring Winnie the Pooh and his favorite treat is scheduled for 10 a.m. Family goodie bags will again be available for those who did not receive one at Monday’s program. Watch the library’s webpage (forsythlibrary. com) or call 877-8174 for more information about these events.
