Library online access to databases can save you time and money

Want to catch up on reading newspapers and magazines for free from your desktop computer, laptop or smart phone? Need to research what college scholarships are available or wanting to learn a new language? All this and much more is now available for free through the website of Forsyth Public Library through your library card – the smartest card in your wallet. Your library card number gives you access to data and tools that go far beyond what you can find simply with a Google search on the Internet.

The 10 new databases added by the library this summer include Biography in Context, Books & Authors, Legal Forms Library, General One- File, Health & Wellness Resource Center, Kids InfoBits, Opposing Viewpoints in Context, Infotrac Newsstand, Powerspeak Languages, and Testing & Education Reference Center.

To access and try out any of them from your computer or smart phone, go to www.forsythlibrary.com and click on “Materials Search” (found in the top toolbar). Then click the “go” button next to the database you wish to use. Each one has a log-in page that will ask for a password, which is the number found on the back of your library card. Ignore any spaces when typing in your number. Smart phone users can download an “Access My Library” app at www.gale.com/apps for even easier access to the database. For those watching their investments, the library also is offering a trial version of Morningstar Investment Research Center. This database also accepts your library card number as your password and is found through the “Materials Search” button on the Library’s web page.

In addition to these new databases, the library continues to offer access to eLibrary and Grolier Online, which includes Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, America the Beautiful, Lands and Peoples, and the New Book of Popular Science. These databases also are available from both home and library and use your Forsyth Library card number as your password.

Want a demo on how to access the new databases? Stop by the library during regular hours or set up a time by calling the library at 877-8174.
