Local tourism promoted

Sunday, April 17, 2011

Throughout April, community leaders in Forsyth and Decatur are promoting local tourism with a campaign theme of “Discover Decatur/Forsyth – There’s So Much to See and Do.”

“Many of our sites and attractions are labors of love. They are showcases of original art, historical artifacts, personal collections and personal bests,” Mayor Hap Gilbert told the media gathered March 29 at Hickory Point Golf Course clubhouse as the Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (DACVB) kicked off the awareness campaign.

The mayor, who serves on the DACVB board of directors, was joined by Decatur Mayor Mike McElroy and official spokesperson “Commodore Stephen Decatur,” as portrayed by a costumed John Biedler of Decatur. All three encouraged local residents to take advantage of the area’s museums, art galleries, historic homes, antique centers, live theater and the recreational facilities found in golf courses and parks.
