Long range planning process shaping up

Thursday, October 13, 2011

At press time, Village Administrator Heather Kimmons was in the final stages of finalizing a contract with Teska Associates Inc. of Plainfield, Ill., to partner with the Village in producing a comprehensive longrange plan and a review of all Village development and zoning ordinances. On Sept. 6, the Village Board had unanimously agreed to work with Teska, Kimmons’ first choice after a review of six consulting firms.

“Public input is going to be key,” Kimmons said. “This will be a very interactive process. The next step is to determine how the [long-range planning] committee will be comprised.”

Kimmons sees the recent merging of the Plan Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals into one nine-member Planning and Zoning Commission as an important step in gaining resident input for the planning process. Ultimately, the Board will decide who will serve on the long-range planning committee, but the newly formed Commission could be key members of that group, Kimmons said, noting that she expects work to begin after Jan. 1.
