New Casey’s store opens on Route 51

Thursday, January 25, 2018

The folks at the sparkling new Casey’s General Store like to get an early start when they open a freshly built store for business. And, so it was on Friday, January 19 when the doors opened to customers for the first time at 5 a.m.

The store, at the corner of Cox Street and Route 51 directly across from Menards, has everything you’ve come to expect from a convenience store. There’s the tasty Casey’s pizza, subs, donuts, soft-serve ice cream, gasoline and a walk-in beer cave!

When the company announced they were coming to town, Village Community and Economic Development Coordinator Andrew Zupkoff said that data showed that the area could support another gas station/convenience store. Building permits were issued back in the summer, and the construction work has been fast paced ever since.

Casey’s General Stores got its start in 1959 when founder Don Lamberti leased a service station in Des Moines, Iowa, and converted it to a convenience store. Nine years later, Lamberti bought another station in Boone, Iowa, and did the same thing, changing this one over to a convenience store that he named Casey’s.

According to the company’s website, the success of Casey’s can be attributed to its “clean stores and friendly employees who pride themselves in customer service.” Casey’s now has over 2,000 stores and continues to grow.

Welcome to Forsyth!
