New family-owned pharmacy and drugstore to serve Forsyth

Thursday, January 30, 2014

For folks living in Forsyth and on the north end of Decatur, there’s a new pharmacy in the neighborhood. Colee’s Corner Drugs opened on Jan. 3 in the old Yummy Yummy location at 845 S. U.S. Route 51.

Owner Dale Colee signed a lease last fall to expand his family-owned pharmacy business to a second location. Their first store, Dale’s Southlake Pharmacy, opened in South Shores in 2004.

His daughter, Erica Colee, who graduated from pharmacy school about three years ago, is the pharmacist in charge at the new location. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Another daughter, Lauren Young, big sister to Erica, runs the marketing and public relations end of the business, serving as marketing manager. She said the plan was to fill a need they saw in the area.

“The response we’ve had from the community has been so positive,” Young said. “We wanted to fill something we thought was missing.”
Young said the store provides all the things a customer needs and can get at a national chain store but closer to home and with a bit more personal feel. The company credo is, after all, “Friends helping friends.”

“We provide fast, friendly, reliable service,” Young said. “It’s everything you can get at the big-box stores but with a little better customer service.”
Customers can, of course, get prescriptions filled, but there’s also gifts and cards and gourmet coffee and candy. When we say candy, we’re talking an assortment of Fannie May Fine Chocolates.

There is also a new drive-up window in operation that runs along the north side, the Weaver Road side, of the building.

The east half of the building that faces Route 51 will eventually become retail space; remodeling work is well under way in that portion of the building.
