New salon opens on Shafer Street

Thursday, October 14, 2010

A red door in Zen means ""welcome"" and that's what the owner of Salon Zen wants clients to feel when they walk into her newly renovated hair and nail care business at 402 Shafer Street.

Christina Kaufman, a hair and makeup artist, and Jacquelyn Walker, a nail nirvana specialist, are now taking appointments as they offer the Central Illinois community and Forsyth residents ""...a better choice for hair and nail care services"" in an eco-friendly atmosphere with the use of organic products.

Kaufman, an Argenta resident, is no newcomer to the Village. Her career began 10 years ago at J. C. Penney Co. in Hickory Point Mall where she merited the ""Golden Scissors Award"" for her skills. Most recently she was employed by an upscale salon in downtown Decatur before deciding to open her own shop. She has moved into a vacancy at the Matheny Heating & Air Conditioning building which housed a former beauty shop. The new salon's tranquil setting includes eco-friendly wood floors, a natural decor and animal print fabrics.

Kaufman said the goal is to offer clients a relaxing atmosphere and provide a ""healthy state and being one with nature."" An ""organic menu"" lists more than a dozen services beginning with a haircut and style for $27 and ranging to a $150 makeover package.

For more information, call Kaufman at 330-6411.
