Decatur native David Strohl says he’s eager to plan, prioritize goals

David Strohl has been named the Village of Forsyth’s new Village Administrator. Strohl, who has nearly 20 years of experience in municipal government, began his new duties Jan. 13.

Mayor Marilyn Johnson made the announcement at the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees on Jan. 6 by saying it was her “great pleasure” to introduce Strohl as the new administrator.

Strohl said that he will come to his new job without an agenda and will work to accomplish the goals set by the mayor and trustees.

“My first priority will be to meet with the mayor and trustees to see what their priorities are,” Strohl said. “I hope to have some strategic planning meetings to then implement those priorities.”

Strohl’s resume includes working as the business manager in Morton, where he currently lives, and most recently as the interim city manager in LaGrange, Mo. His new job is a homecoming; he was born and raised in Decatur.

Strohl replaces Mike Miller, whose October resignation became effective Dec. 6. Miller had been on the job since June 2012. Strohl is the fourth administrator to serve the village since 2006.

In introducing Strohl, the mayor commented on the selection process, saying that trustees had come together and as a group “felt very strongly about our choice” of Strohl. She added that she believed Strohl could “keep moving the village forward.”

Prior to the vote, Johnson read from a letter written by Trustee Bob Rasho, who was not available to attend the meeting. Rasho commended his fellow board members for working together and urged them to vote to approve the hiring of Strohl, which Rasho indicated in his letter would be his position with the words: “I would vote yes.”

Trustee Kerstin Trachtenberg made the motion, which was seconded by Trustee Steve Hubbard. All votes were in favor of Strohl’s appointment to the job. Shortly after, trustees voted to approve the employment agreement with Strohl, which was a separate item on the agenda.

Strohl said his ambitions in his chosen profession are straightforward: “I got into this profession to make a difference, and being able to do this in a smaller community is very appealing to me.”

So, what kind of guy should the public expect when they meet their new administrator?

“I’m pretty easygoing and flexible, and I try to adjust to the organizational culture and environment I’m working in,” Strohl said. “I’m excited to be the village’s next administrator, excited to work with the mayor and trustees and ready to help the village move forward.”
