Numbers show strong holiday shopping season

Village’s Black Friday best since 2011

In a press release, dated February 7, the Village of Forsyth reported that Black Friday sales for this most recent shopping season were the best since 2011.

More than $395,000 in sales tax, to be disbursed to the Village, was collected by local businesses in November, making it the strongest launch of the holiday shopping season in six years. The figure, recently released by the Illinois Department of Revenue, surpassed last year’s numbers by about $25,000.

“We had some key additions to Hickory Point Mall, as well as along the Route 51 corridor that undoubtedly led to this sales boost for November 2017,” said Andrew Zupkoff, the Village’s community and economic development coordinator.

According to the press release, the positive trend has continued through February 2018, with sales tax disbursements for Forsyth at approximately $45,000 above what they were through the same period last year.

“In a region where lagging sales tax figures are the norm, we’re fortunate to be in a position that we’re experiencing growth,” Zupkoff said. “The continual attraction of retail businesses to Forsyth, and a new TIF district strengthen our position and should allow us to flourish for years to come.”
