Red Wing Shoes opens for business

Thursday, September 15, 2016

The new Red Wing Shoes store, 1260 S. Route 51, had its grand opening last month with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a reception.

Known for American-made footwear, especially work boots, the company offers product lines for both men and women, who work and play hard.

Partners Jeff Gedrose, who hails from Red Wing, Minnesota, and Jeff Hunt, a Springfield native, decided some time ago to make the move north from the store’s longtime location in Brettwood Village to Forsyth. So far, things have gone smoothly.
“Our neighbors have been great, and the village has been great to us also,” Gedrose said.

Red Wing Shoe Company, founded more than 110 years ago, is named for the company’s hometown. Gedrose, who knew the owners in his youth, had some training at the company’s headquarters.

Red Wing Shoes becomes the third tenant in the new retail outlet, along with Penn Station East Coast Subs and SportClips. There is space remaining for one more retailer at the location situated on the village’s busiest thoroughfare.

The “Partners Jeff” have three stores in all, with their two other locations in Springfield and Peoria. They are known for their vintage American vehicles — often trucks from the 1940s and ’50s — that they decorate with the Red Wing logo that can be readily seen parked in front of their stores.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, closed on Sundays. For more information, call the store at (217) 875-1125.
