Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam

Thursday, November 12, 2015

Deputy Jennifer Harris warned trustees at the Nov. 2 board meeting about a phone scam whereby a caller claims to be Sgt. Miller of the Macon County Sheriff’s Office. The caller tries to get credit card payment over the phone for a warrant. Harris said there is no Sgt. Miller, and the sheriff’s office never uses the phone for such business.

“We don’t have a Sgt. Miller, and we don’t phone,” Harris said. “We come to your door.”

Harris added that there hadn’t been any victims yet, but she said the public should be aware. 
