Sidewalk repair, construction project at park awarded to Rhodes Contracting Co.

Thursday, September 12, 2013

Public Works Director Larry Coloni provided trustees and staff members with an information packet at the Aug. 19 board meeting regarding the awarding of a contract for a proposed sidewalk concrete repair and construction project.

Three quotes had been received and evaluated, Coloni said. He then requested that the formal bidding process be waived and that the board approve awarding the contract to Carl Rhodes Contracting Co. for an amount not to exceed $35,000.

The scope of the project includes the construction of a new sidewalk in the park that will run between the large pavilion and the south concession stand.

Work will also include needed repairs to sidewalks throughout the village and the building of additional ADA approaches in Eagle Ridge Estates subdivision as per discussions from some years ago.

While the contractor is aware of the prevailing wages rates for the village and has agreed to provide a certificate of insurance before beginning the work, Village Attorney Jeff Jurgens suggested that a formal contract for the project be signed stating that the contractor is aware of both prevailing wages and insurance requirements.

Trustee Steve Hubbard made the motion to approve waiving the formal competitive bid process and for the approval of the agreement with Carl Rhodes Contracting for the 2013 Concrete Construction Project not exceed $35,000. The motion was seconded by Trustee Dave Wendt. All votes were in favor; the motion carried.
