Sinkholes discovered on village property

Thursday, August 14, 2014

One Public Works crew member recently got the kind of surprise no one wants to see when they’re out cutting grass: the ground beneath him started to give way.

According to Public Works Director Larry Coloni, several sinkholes appeared on two lots that the village owns on East Barnett Avenue. It was not a simple problem to correct quickly as the holes were 6 feet in depth.

The cause, Coloni reported to the board, was likely bad field tile. The fix to the problem could not be done without calling in help. Luka Contracting made the necessary repairs, which included more than 100 feet of new pipe being installed.

Coloni also reported to the board that two lime lagoons at the water treatment facility were recently cleaned by Evergreen FS. The process involved removing the lime and moving it to a processing facility. 
