Snow doesn’t dampen annual lighting of Village Christmas tree

Thursday, December 15, 2016

The Second Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Sunday, December 4 in Forsyth Park was well attended by a couple of hundred hearty souls who had to bundle up and trudge through the season’s first snowfall.

This new tradition in the Village provides an opportunity for neighbors to gather together and get in the holiday mood while being serenaded by choirs from both the middle school and the high school. There was plenty of hot cocoa, and the Northeast Community Fund was the beneficiary of the generosity of Village residents. There were 73 canned goods donated for the occasion, according to Trustee Kerstin Trachtenberg, who is the point person for this popular evening.

Trachtenberg was quick to give credit to resident Shauna Bohlmann whom she said organized most of the event. Public Works staff helped to decorate a total of three trees, and special thanks to staff member David Dunn who caught a ride on a boom lift pretty high up in the sky to help decorate some pretty tall trees.

Santa was on hand, and there were horse and buggy rides. And, of course, the tree was lit to everyone’s delight. Put this event on your calendar for next year.
