Softball, disc golf tourneys a hit at park

Thursday, September 14, 2017

Lynne Durham, director of sports and marketing at the Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, delivered a follow-up report to trustees on a couple of events that took place at Forsyth Park last month.

In the Men’s Class A State Fastpitch Championship, the C.I. Knights of Villa Grove beat the Bowen Merchants. In the Men’s Wooden Bat Tournament, Bowen beat Kelso, a team from Missouri. Each event saw approximately 10 hotel rooms booked.

For the Forsyth-Decatur Disc Golf Classic, the DACVB estimated 30-35 hotel rooms booked. The event attracted 78 players from seven states and 32 cities in Illinois.

Durham said she received positive feedback from softball players and disc golf competitors about the quality of the venues. She praised Public Works staff for their hard work.

“The Forsyth grounds crew — Bart, Clayton, John, Logan and John — did a terrific job,” Durham said. “I can’t say enough about the great job they do.”
